vanishing point . Exhibition Thu May 15th - Sat June 28th 2008
In his Solo exhibition Matthias Aeberli shows paintings from his latest work period
vanishing point is a term related to physics, optics or perspective. It is a point which literally disappears, a virtual piece, it doesn’t really exist, like the end of the rainbow. It is a mere reference. At the same time vanishing point is the title of a B- movie from the eighties, (in German: 'Fluchtpunkt San Francisco', or 'auf dem Highway ist die Hölle los', hell on the highway). What has this all to do with art, with painting?
Well, let’s say, without perspective there’s no imagery and without images you won’t get a movie.The new work of Matthias Aeberli beams you with different speed through time and space. Enjoy new perspectives, you might be surprised.
The movie deals with a guy on the run through the U.S., from east to west, from N.Y.C. to San Francisco, he dies at the end, so the movie can have an end, it is a typical road movie and an existential drama as well.
