It is all but impossible for me to say anything about my paintings, which doesn’t immediately and vehemently demand a contradiction - to define them in positive terms, so to speak. However, I can talk about them in negative terms: they’re not to be narratives or philosophical or political commentary, let alone social criticism; they’re not to impress with technical brilliance, nor are they to be technically naďve; they’re to work solely through painting’s abstract means, yet are not to be removed completely from the world of physical objects, either. - Maybe that is exactly the point: my work is NOT TO WANT ANYTHING. And maybe there, at the point where a thing is not pulled in any one direction – at that point of perfect equilibrium – the world opens up to pure presence, to God? As a person, I’m striving to find that point. At best, my paintings are traces of that search.
